How an apartment is approved
Case management
Every HASA client has a case manager who approves the rent and the lease.
Unit review
HASA reviews the lease and may inspect the apartment; rent must fit the program maximum for the household.
Landlord documents
W-9, signed lease, proof of ownership and HPD registration.
Move-in
HRA issues the security voucher and the broker fee by check; monthly rent payments follow.
For landlords
- Reliable monthly payment from HRA, with the tenant’s share paid by the tenant.
- The maximum rent follows the CityFHEPS and Section 8 standards; our rent limit page has the 2026 figures.
Questions
Common questions about HASA housing
HASA works through the case manager rather than a shopping letter; the approval letter and budget set the rent the program will pay.
Official sources
Program rules change; the agency page is the authority. Checked October 2026.

Placing a HASA housing household, or a unit that could take one?
Caseworkers refer clients at no cost to the tenant. Landlords send the vacancy and we bring a program-ready tenant with the agency’s packet done.
